This is a blog about bucket lists, craft beer, sailing and Destiny.
My bucket list, sailing and brewpub adventures take place in the Pacific Northwest between Seattle and Canada. Destiny (Destiny II, actually) is the name of our boat. She is a restored Santana 37 with 50 years of racing and cruising history. This blog is a running account of our discoveries.
About the Bucket List
I built the bucket list in 2017 during a job change. I needed some inspiration and fresh perspective so I created a to-do list of recreational goals. You can find the backstory and full list here.
Things I’m working on include baseball, hiking, sailing, and exploring the craft beer scene in the PNW. Some of it expands beyond our local area but most of it is within 100 miles of Seattle.
About the Beer
One of my favorite things about living in the Seattle area is that you can’t swing a cat without hitting a craft brew operation. They are everywhere. The original beer list was just a Snohomish county beer list, but sailing gives us all kinds of access to waterfront brews and it has since expanded. You can access the beer map here.
About our Sailing Adventures
I started sailing as a result of this bucket list and blog. It had been the project that I always wanted to start and never had time. In early 2017 I visited Windworks Sailing in Ballard and they got me started. After a season of classes and chartering at every opportunity we took the plunge and bought a boat.
About Our Boat
Destiny II is a Santana 37 built in 1969. She is hull #2 of 21 Santana 37’s that the WD Schock company designed and manufactured between 1969 and 1972. Every now and then I discover little tidbits and evidence of her history from the past. She is amazing and has opened up a whole new way for us to explore the PNW.
I’m Mike Barlow, the author of this blog. I have started and stopped a handful of small blogs over the years but this one is the one that I have had the most fun with. I’m a husband, father, lover of trails and mountains, and convert from climbing to sailing. I like to write about all kinds of things because writing helps me organize my thoughts. I’m also kind of an introvert and don’t really like talking about myself but if you are curious you can read more here…
