Last week we took a trip from the Seattle area to Vancouver to visit Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and found that it is well worth the drive.
Lake Twentytwo is an easy five and a half mile round trip hike. The trailhead is located near Granite Falls (WA) off of the Mountain Loop Highway.
Getting to the Winchester Mountain Lookout in the North Cascades, Mt. Baker area is harder on your car than it is on your legs. The drive to the top involves a seven mile, single lane dirt road with some big potholes and more than a few washout areas. That said, once you arrive at the trail head the rest of the trip is a snap.
From Mt. Pilchuck Lookout you can see Mt. Rainier, Seattle, Everett, the Olympic Range, the San Juan Islands, Mt. Baker and the North Cascades. Mix in a deep orange sunset and some strawberry cotton candy clouds and you have a landscape photographers dream.
We just returned from a trek to Cascade Locks for the Bridge of the Gods Run. When I set up my bucket list in June of 2017, a run across the Bridge of the Gods had to be on it (more on this below). Anyhow, I’m happy to say that this bucket list item is also checked off in the summer of 2017.
